Toto spares, Toto parts, Toto spare parts, Spare code no : TH679A - Check valve unit,
A check valve (also called a non-return valve) prevents water from flowing backward in a piping system. It’s a simple one-way gate built inside fittings such as mixers or thermostatic valves.
Primary functions include:
- 🛑 Preventing backflow: stops water from flowing back toward the supply line — this protects the clean water supply.
- 🌡️ Safety in mixed hot/cold valves: in cases of thermostatic mixing valves or shower units, a check valve ensures hot and cold water don’t cross-feed into each other’s supply lines.
- 💧 Protecting plumbing: helps stop pressure fluctuations, back siphoning, and contamination of potable water.
📍 Typical Uses in TOTO Products
TH679A is used as a check valve in various TOTO faucet/shower valve units, particularly those with a TMJ40C-type or similar valve bodies. It is often found inside the internal water paths of:
- Wall-mounted and concealed shower/mixer valves
- Thermostatic mixing valves
- Faucet assemblies where one-way flow must be maintained to ensure correct pressure balancing and safety operation
Because it keeps the water flowing only in the correct direction, TH679A helps prevent back-pressure or backflow into the supply line, which could otherwise contaminate water or cause improper valve operation.
🔧 Why and When You’d Replace It
Check valves like TH679A can wear out or get clogged due to:
- Mineral buildup (hard water scaling)
- Debris from pipe work
- Wear and tear over years of operation
If the check valve fails, you may see:
✔ Backflow or water pressure issues
✔ Cold water flowing into the hot side (or vice-versa) of a mixing valve
✔ Erratic temperature or pressure behavior in showers/faucets.
